A somewhat shocking choice

An amusing selection by Aspergillus for their Comic Market 86 parody book, as the circle has chosen to eschew the armada of kanmusu and the idols for minor A Certain Scientific Railgun characters Kinuho Wannai and Maaya Awatsuki.

Comic Market 84: Aspergillus

After months in the hopper, Aspergillus has finally revealed the cover of their newest offering at Comic Market 84.  Darlings of the year Misaki Shokuhou and Mikoto Misaka grace the cover of Level: Five, both looking lovely in their Tokiwadai uniforms, though BiriBiri certainly looks less than happy to share the spotlight with her towheaded rival.

Comic Market 83: Aspergillus / Okara

It's been two and a half years since Aspergillus produced a parody doujinshi of a series other than the Magical Index/Scientific Railgun military-industrial complex, but for Comic Market 83, the circle has revealed that they're finally leaving behind the young maidens of Academy City for the resident gothic lolita force majeure of Chiba, Kuroneko.  I love Okara's fidelity to the original character designs of his charges, from his 2009 Amagami parody book Sweet Handler, up through the present.  Generally he puts less of his own style onto his parodies than most doujin artists, giving the circle's books a more authentic feel.  I'm definitely looking forward to the circle's efforts with such an iconic and beloved character, even if it might be a little past due.
