Stand, delivered

With the smoke clearing and the rubble revealed following the chaos of Comic Market 86 just weeks ago, most circles were happy to simply offer copies of their newest and latest at COMITIA109 at the tail end of August.  AYUEST, not being most circles, offered a plastic smartphone stand featuring Amatsukaze and some highly styled calligraphy--what it reads, I shall leave to someone literate in Japanese, and simply state MORE OF MY BOAT WIFE PLS.

The recent scene-wide dominance of Kantai Collection has been a boon for me as a fan to discover other doujinshi circles that I otherwise might never have investigated.  Between the nightly KanColle OneDraw hashtag on Twitter, the pursuit of different works of any of the hundred-some-odd kanmusu, and the busy calendar of doujin events giving artists numerous chances to hone their skills on their boat wife of choice, the Fleet Girls have done much to bring artists and fans together in a way I have never experienced, this author having completely missed the Touhou phenomenon of years past.

Of all the circles I've come across through their kanmusu, AYUEST is most definitely the one I look forward to following after the otaku hivemind moves on to its next obsession.  With a very quick workrate, circle artist Ayuya has fed fans a steady parade of vessels to worship since this time last year, with Kongou, Shoukaku, Taihou, and Verniy all getting the full-sized release treatment.  I was super-excited in June to see Ayuya's Twitter avatar change to be my favorite ship in the fleet, Amatsukaze, but was disappointed to see her only with Rensouhou-chan as a set of badges at June's COMITIA108--so much promise, wasted!

Either Ayuya answers prayers, or I just had to be a little patient, as my darling twintailed one has gained the cover of the circle's newest release for Comiket 86.  It looks like there'll be a ton of KanColle gear for fans to pick up from the circle, including the fifth AYULOGUE omake collection, featuring Shoukaku and Zuikaku in a pose similar to the netsuke the circle produced earlier this year...

Because Japan fun fact: I took more than six years' worth of Russian class between high school and college.  Now, more than a decade out, I can still read the language but have virtually zero ability to understand it.  While that's still far, far more comprehension than I have in the Japanese language, I do speak moe very well, and it just so happens that Kantai Collection's Verniy is fluent as well.  AYUEST will be bridging the communication gap for fans at Sankuri 64 later this month with this latest effort.

Pinpoint accuracy

From straight out of nowhere, AYUEST has emerged as one of the circles I look forward to most out of anyone, thanks in no small part to their consistently high-quality work within the kanmususphere and helped in no small part by their seemingly constant output--nary a convention goes by without circle artist Ayuya's Twitter avatar changing, and when there isn't a convention to report on, the circle has filled the gaps with seasonal iPhone backgrounds featuring the Kantai Collection girls, and the circle's inventive with goods as well.  The circle's COMITIA108 offering featured fan favorite Amatsukaze as a button set.

Shoukaku to the rafters and a hot young rookie at COMIC1☆8

Surely, one of the more asinine conversations possible on sports talk radio is the discussion of whose uniform numbers deserve to be retired--here in the New England area, a debate over whether the digits of former Celtics Kevin Garnett (wasn't a lifetime Celtic) and Ray Allen (TRAITAH!) deserve enshrinement alongside True Celtic and mortal lock Paul Pierce in the TD Garden rafters has been known to consume an entire four-hour radio show.  Discussion of honoring Wade Boggs' uniform number has been known to spark bar fights.  No such debate in the AYUEST camp, however--the performance of their latest erotic parody doujin featuring Kan Colle's Shoukaku, with adorable paper airplane companion included, seems to have earned the aircraft carrier a place among the titans, as Ayuya has revealed a thoroughly lovely B2-sized tapestry of the kanmusu to be sold at COMIC1☆8 and at Toranoana.

As one great gets enshrined, a scorching hot young rookie will have her debut for AYUEST at COMIC1☆8, as watercraft waif Taihou graces the cover of the circle's latest erotic parody doujin, 21世紀ト恋想 , a B5-sized, 28-paged effort also available for order at the Tiger Hole.

Updated 1:52 pm 4/19:  AYUEST looks to be pushing all the circle's chips into the pot at COMIC1☆8, betting big on their collective talents with their kanmusu-of-the-moment.  In addition to the previously revealed tapestry and parody book, Shoukaku will be making an appearance on a long, wine bottle-sized reusable bag and on a netsuke with sister ship Zuikaku, and Taihou appear on a seriously neat customizable file box, the perfect size to tote around all your goodies!
