Comic City 35: Men 120 Percent / Menyoujan

Though the girls of K-on! have been out of the otaku consciousness for some time, it seems Men 120 Percent has some unfinished business with Houkago Tea Time's kittenish kouhai Azusa Nakano in Azus@ttack3.  I bought Azus@ttack back in March 2011 on a whim simply because the book's size and colors reminded me of Ishikei's, and the investment in the book and the artist have not disappointed yet.  This book comes more than two years after the second volume, and about three-and-a-half years since the first.

While the circle's covers may sometimes borrow liberally from the Ishikei playbook, the content of Men 120 Percent's erotic doujinshi can certainly hold their own against the titans of the industry.  Despite it being 2013, the circle lacks a web presence, so I must thank Toranoana for showcasing their latest creation, Sharu no Ero Hon, featuring Infinite Stratos' Charlotte Dunois.  This marks the circle's second venture into IS Academy, the previous occasion back in November 2011 with Pistonight.  This A4-sized, 16-page effort will be released on December 22, and will surely be present at Tokyo Big Sight the following week.

If Ishikei is the progenitor of the sexy multiple-position montage cover, Men 120 Percent is certainly one of its most worthy offspring.  The circle's A4-sized, full-color releases have been very well regarded, and their artistry is consistently high-quality and seldom if ever takes liberty with the bounds of human anatomy.  The circle's C84 offering will follow up their Comiket 82 To Love-Ru parody with the release of the Yui Kotegawa-centric Tastyui2.

One cour late, or one week early?  

As it is wont to do, the doujinshi world seems to have moved on from its fascination with undisputed belle of the 2012 ball, Asuna Yuuki of Sword Art Online, to pursue its next flavor-of-the-cour starlet.  Menyoujan of A4 Ace circle Men 120 Percent seems not quite ready to retire the Nerve Gear to the closet next to the Rock Band drum kit quite yet, however, with this release of this 16-pager on Toranoana, which debuted for sale last Sunday, April 7.  I'm not sure why this circle continues to choose to debut new works in retail outlets, rather than at doujinshi events like the vast majority of creators, but so long as they continue producing charming-looking art they can keep on keepin' on.

I have no idea how long it's been known for, or if it's been previously discussed elsewhere, but there is good news to be found on Toranoana for 綿120パーセント / Men 120 Percent and Shining series fans alike.  The ecchi doujinshi circle helmed by Menyoujan, who achieved notoriety for their previous works featuring the girls of K-ON!, will be releasing this doujinshi featuring Shining Blade's Sakuya.  Toranoana lists the issue date as 11/25, with sales starting on 12/10, and it looks like pre-orders are underway.  No word if the circle will be featuring the same book at Comic Market 83, as they continue to defy conventional wisdom by not having a proprietary web presence.  Contact your proxy buyer today!

Personally, I love to see ecchi doujinshi artists take on the works of other high-profile artists, especially when the original work being parodied is a non-ecchi one, such as Karory's take on the girls that Digital Lover artist Yuka Nakajima penned for the light novel and anime series Papa no Iu Koto wo Kikinasai! in the ecchi doujin Karorful Mix EX7.
